Struct the Structure

January 30, 2007

Good day bloggers!

I’ve done with my last topic for midterm and that is Structure. Next sessions that we have will be mastery and the applications od Characters and Strings, Pointers and Structures in the program. I have included also unions, enumerations and bit manipulations for their advance study.

We had our lab practices that turned to be Lab quiz at the same time on Structures using the dot and arrow operators to access the entered data. Some found it easy to manipulate but the rest, I do not know. They have to have skills on Structures since this topic will help them in their final project. Honestly, I am helping them this Midterm to pass, I am giving the 3/4 of the codes for the program, and just add a little modification but still others cannot follow. Thus, resulting to some disappointment to the instructor who is me anyway…lol…

Anyway, these students needs to retake the basic of programming or shall I say, double effort on practicing the different applications of the programming 2 subject.

Enough for that! I am planning to have group consultation of what to do to their final project in our lecture session today and tomorrow as well.

Take care everyone!

UIC ROTC Unit? What went wrong?

January 24, 2007

Good day bloggers!

Yesterday was the fun, exciting and breathless presentation of our cadets and cadettes in our ROTC unit. The presentation started at around 8:30 in the morning, if I am not mistaken. It was a beautiful and awesome welcome for tuesday. I saw my students wearing their type A uniform. That uniform made them smart and sharp in some ways.

I was in the 3rd floor together with the 4th year CS students waiting for that bang of certainty, the start of the presentation. I cannot stop but to wow some of their moves, but there’s no perfect thing in this world, some were lousy cadets and cadettes but not enough to surpass the brilliant and smart moves of the majority.

Enough for that, it ended up with rank two that day so far way behind USEP, just this day I have heard, i do not know if it’s true, UIC ROTC Unit snatched the 3rd place. Anyway, congratulations still for the job well done! Kudos!

Pointing them Pointers

January 22, 2007

good day bloggers!

I had a wonderful discussion on pointer topic during our lab session. I was hoping that the idea of using pointers in the program must sink in to them as they go along with some difficult concepts that needs the help of pointers. It’s just a matter of * and & operators. I have observed in my discussion that they have hard time grasping the basics of pointers but at the end, we’ve finished the topic with 95% of my classes this afternoon got the basics of pointers.

Thus, I am really happy for that result. No clear instructions to us but tomorrow is the Annual Tactical Inspection of our ROTC/WATC Unit here. It has been consistently participated by our university and for how many years in a row, we are consistently topping among the rest of the participating universities and colleges in the region. For this event, most of my first year students will join in the said event and meaning I will be having no classes in all my programming subjects…<rest day for me>

I wish the unit will repeat its history last year and to my students goodluck and God bless! Conquer them with your smart moves and brilliant combats.

Friday is the Day!

January 19, 2007

Hello bloggers,

Today is friday and it is the end of this week’s academic life. A while ago, we had an orientation about fire-earthquake drills. Faculty, student officers, non teaching personnel together with some Administrators were there to listen and be oriented with what’s the current practice if we encounter such scenario in our school since our school have been cited as one of the vulnerable earthquake prone areas in the city. The talks from the City Disaster Coordinating Counciul lasted for almost 3 hours. Actually the topic were interesting but we or some cannot stop the call of nature to nap while the two speakers were having their way imparting the do’s and dont’s of being in the actual disaster.

Aside from that, they(speaker) have emphasized the importance of different drills such as fire and earthquake in the school where many occupants are working in. It has to be done regularly or periodically to monitor the readiness of each in times like disasters and calamities. Atleast, good for us or shall I say for me, since some of the basic information about disaster and the like have been discussed throughly and with illustrations. It taught us to rely ourselves when that time comes, we need to be responsible enough to protect ourselves before the outside helps comes.

According to one of the speakers, the disaster awareness/orientation will be ideally done whole day, it’s not just hours. But enough for that this time, generally that completes my Friday!

Let’s move on to my academic life, I thought my students for my class at 4:30 were not here already, but as I went down to the IT lab., we have a lab session now, they’re there waiting for me. So instead oh having no class, I let them enter the lab and work on the topics for their blogs.

Tomorrow will be another challenging day for me, another battleminding activity, why? It’s another review day in prepartaion for my Comprehensive exam this March in my Graduate Studies. Good luck for me.

Happy week ends everyone! Use your time wisely!

Motivational Thursday as I say!

January 11, 2007

Good day everyone!

Programming Class at 7:30AM is on progress. I gave them exercise to do for the application of Characters and Strings. One of the common applications to it is Palindrome but this time it’s not character, it’s Numeric Palindrome. I am sure they are enjoying this problem as what my other classes who took the exercise yesterday. Atleast, there are students who got the problem, hehhehehe.

Good day for me, good wake up call and nice welcome of the day. Indeed, a motivational Thursday for me. Thanks God for that.

God bless everyone!

Web Blogging in relation to Presentation Skills in IT subject

January 5, 2007

Just this week, I have a lecture on Web blogging for my Presentation Skills in IT. I prepared this topic for my 1st year students not just to have fun while blogging but also the impact and importance of this in developing their writing skills. This web blogging will help them to be good online writers someday. Actually, I have imparted to them that this important topic will help them to become at ease with English language wherein this skill is one of the weaknesses of Filipinos nowadays, atleast through this activity they will be able to practice and improve it.

I required my students to have their own blog. For uniformity, I told them to register here in blogsome, blogsome should have payed me for promoting their blogsite, hehhehhehe.

What was my motivation for giving this? Aside from honing their English skills in writing, actually, some of my students are now earning money through blogging, some of them have reached atmost to 5000 pesos for just having or putting or advertising links of some orgs. in their blogs. As simple as that, the need to be patient, perseverance and determination must be there. Fortunately, my students have responded positively to it.

God bless everyone!
